Ingredients

For the Chicken:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of ham (preferably thinly sliced)

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Panko for extra crunch)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1 tablespoon olive oil, for frying

For the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce:

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup milk (whole or 2%)

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Pound them gently to about 1/2-inch thickness with a meat mallet or rolling pin for even cooking.

Assemble the Cordon Bleu: On each chicken breast, layer a slice of ham followed by a slice of Swiss cheese. Roll the chicken tightly from one end to the other, tucking in the sides as you roll to prevent the filling from escaping. Secure each roll with toothpicks.

Bread the Chicken: Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, the second with the beaten eggs, and the third with breadcrumbs. Dredge each chicken roll first in flour, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chicken rolls and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Once browned, transfer the chicken to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and juices run clear.

Make the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually add the milk, whisking until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in the shredded Swiss cheese until melted and creamy. Season with salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard if using.

Serve: Once the chicken is done, remove toothpicks and plate the chicken cordon bleu. Drizzle the creamy Swiss cheese sauce over the top and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
