Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into thirds

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup crushed pineapple, drained (optional)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Arrange the cut Sweet Hawaiian rolls in an even layer in the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut evenly over the rolls.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the arranged rolls, making sure all pieces are soaked. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure the rolls absorb the liquid.

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight if time permits, to allow the flavors to meld and the bread to soak up the custard.

Once ready to bake, remove the plastic wrap and bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.

Allow the dish to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
